Steve Schneider was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1955. He spent a great deal of time outdoors observing and enjoying the back roads, swamps, and countryside of southwest Louisiana.

Steve discovered in grade school that he had an aptitude for capturing images on paper and throughout high school and college continued to cultivate his drawing and seeing ability along with exploring interests in music and photography.

After graduating from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette with a BS degree in Zoology, Steve's love of creative thought and imagery guided him to return to study Advertising Design with a focus on Illustration.

In 1992, after leaving an advertising agency he co-founded, Steve began painting full time and soon discovered that this was the right path for him.

For the past 20 years Steve has experimented with a multitude of media including water color, pen and ink, oil, charcoal, and gouache as well as mixed media. He discovered that acrylics fit his style the best.

"Painting ala prima plein air requires concentration and focus. The acrylic medium allows me to work quickly and capture the light before it changes too drastically. I only have about 2 hours per sitting to document a moment."

Steven describes his creative process as a trinity of mind, body and soul.  Mind involves perceiving the perfect balance and harmony of the color notes as they exist in nature.  Body connects with "In The Moment Painting", compressing time and experience into tangible expression. Soul presents itself in the healing spiritual energy  of familiar land shapes.

Schneider's works are held in private and corporate collections such as Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette, Louisiana and have appeared in numerous publications including Southern Accents Magazine.

Steven now resides in Donaldsonville,  Louisiana with his wife Cynthia and exhibits his work at Schneider Gallery on Railroad Avenue.
